Helping Husbands Start from the Beginning

As men get married, several of them are starting from scratch. By that, I mean that this is their first marriage, so they do not have any experience. Also, while they had a father who was a husband or partner to their mother, they may not have seen a biblically healthy marriage. They may not know what it means to be a godly husband. Because of that, we have links to several past articles on marriage and help for the husband below.

First, you need to know what the purpose of marriage is. You can read about that here in The 6 Purposes of Marriage.

Second, you may build your marriage on the saying, “Happy Wife, Happy Life,” but this will lead you and your wife to unhappiness. God calls you to help your wife be holy, not happy. You can read that article here.

Third, you are called to love your wife. This article gives eight practical ways husbands can do so. See also, Husband, 8 Admonitions to Loving Your Wife.

Fourth, marriage is a lifelong endeavor. It takes a lifetime to build your wife up. You can read about cultivating your wife here.

Fifth, you are called to lead your wife. You can read why that should be a blessing to her in the post Why Godly Men Lading in Marriage Does Not Devalue Women.

Sixth, husbands are called to sacrifice for their wives. You can read about that here.

Lastly, if you want to read more about marriage, we provide a list of good books on godly marriage here .
