One of the commissions God gives husbands is to sacrifice for their wives. The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5:25 “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
We are called to love our wives in a sacrificial way. Jesus loved believers by sacrificing Himself for them. He exchanged His comfort to give them salvation. Here’s some practical ways men can do the same for their wives.
1. Financially: Give to her more than you assign for yourself. Let her spend more than you. Put her financial needs and wants before yours. Lead her in making a budget.
2. Emotionally: Listen to her. Listen when she expresses her feelings to you. Help her carry the things that weigh heavily on her heart and mind.
3. Relationally: Give her more attention than you give anyone else. Make sure she has time and opportunity to see her relatives and female friends.
4. Physically: Give her time to work out, rest, and rejuvenate.
5. Domestically: Make sure she has what she needs to run her home. The space, the resources, the time to make her home beautiful, productive, restful, and hospitable.
6: Sexually: Make sure her needs are met. Take the time she needs or wants. Be a giver, not a taker.
7: Time: Give her opportunity to flourish. Sacrifice some of your time so she can enjoy herself. Ask her what you can take off her plate, so she has some time for herself.
Do you sacrifice for your wife? How are you practically doing that? Which area does sacrifice come easily for you? Which of these areas could you work toward being more sacrificial for your wife?
