God-Given Kingdom Domains for Men

I have written quite a bit about “the Kingdom of God.” First, I wrote about “Basics of the Kingdom of God.” Then “How to Live in the Kingdom of God.” Also “Adam’s Kingdom Success, Failure, and Hope.” I have also provided resources for studying the kingdom of God.

In this article I would like to discover “God-Given Kingdom Domains for Men.” God has given all of us kingdoms, big and small, He has called us to reign and rule over. In regards to men, I have a long but not complete list I would like us to consider. As you read these, think: “Do I rule and reign in God’s way over these things?” or “Do I rule and reign them in my way?” or “Do these things rule over me?” These could be applied to women as well, but this was originally used in a speaking engagement for men.

1. FINANCES

There are a lot of temptations to not rule and reign over our finances. Proverbs 13:18 says, “Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored.”  There are ways to and not to run our finances. How we rule them will be a determining factor if we are honored or shamed with their use.

Too many men let their finances rule and reign them. They don’t have a budget, don’t work hard, or simply buy what they want when they want without any planning. The question is, do your finances rule you or do you rule them? How you use or misuse your finances will determine where you, and your family ends up.

2. EMOTIONS

How do you act and react when it comes to your emotions? Are you someone who is easily angered? Do you “tell it as it is?” Are you flippant with your speech? Or are you someone who carries yourself well. Even in tough situations, are you able to control yourself?

Proverbs 16:32 says, “Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” It is hard to rule our emotions sometimes, but if we do, we will be blessed. Although the inverse is true. If we don’t rule our emotions well, we will destroy the kingdoms in our lives that God has called us to build.

3. SEXUALITY

It is hard to rule our sexual beings for two reasons in this culture. First, we live in a culture where ruling your sexuality is not part of the culture. Second, we live in a culture where sex outside of God’s design is at our fingertips on our phones.

I Thessalonians 4:3-5 talks about this. We are called to “abstain from sexual immorality.” Any sex that is outside of a God-given holy matrimony between God’s design of one man and one woman is sin. Men, this includes pornography, which clearly involves a woman who is not our wife.

If you will learn to control your sexuality God’s way with His help, you will be blessed. It will bless you. If you are in a holy, God-given marriage, it will help strengthen that marriage abundantly.

When it comes to your finances, emotions, and sexuality, do you rule them God’s ways or your ways? Or better yet, do you rule them at all or do they rule you? What are the consequences you have faced by not ruling them God’s way? What blessings have you received when you have ruled them God’s ways?
