In Scripture we see Satan. He is a real being. He is an angel and lived with God in Heaven. Then, because of his rebellion, he was cast down to earth. Jesus says in Luke 10:18, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from Heaven.”
Satan is a destroyer. He loves to get others to reject God and follow him. His goal is confusion by using bait and switch to get us to follow him. In the end he wants death. Not just physical, but spiritual, emotional, mental, financial, and relational death. That is why he is called “the murderer” in John 8:44.
Scripture speaks of Satan in Matthew 13:39 as “the enemy.” The same verse also calls him “the evil one.” And in I Peter 5:8 he is “the adversary.”
Scripture is clear that Satan is out to defeat us. We can look at other ways Scripture describes Satan. In Matthew 4:13 he is called the tempter. His goal is to lure us away from God to himself. He does this by being a deceiver, which he is called in Revelation 12:9. He makes us think something is good or godly when it is evil or satanic.
Think About It
Are you aware of the presence of Satan?
Do you know he seeks to destroy you?
Are you aware that he even twists Scripture, like he did in the garden with Adam and Eve, in order to get you to deny God and follow him?
He is looking to destroy you; don’t give in.
