There are many times in our lives we have experienced much great joy? For myself, I experienced great times of joy when I married my wife, watched our children be born, and graduated from grad school. There are other times I experience small blips of joy, like when I have a great meal, see a friend for the first time in a while, or watch my favorite team win.
Salvation can bring us not only joy, but great joy. Knowing that faith in Christ has freed us from our sins, gives us a relationship with God, keeps us from being eternally punished, and allows us to spend time with our God in perfect peace should bring us jubilation.
In Paul’s thesis on salvation to the Romans he tells us what our reaction to salvation should be. In Romans 5:2, 11 Paul tells us that we should rejoice in our salvation.
What does it mean to rejoice? It means to have repetitive joy. The “re” means “going back to.” So for the christian, we should go back to the time of the joy of our salvation. We remember the time when we first had salvation. When we do this we will not just have joy at the time we received salvation, but we can have repetitive joy.
This is why the christian can have a life of joy. This is why the christian can repeatedly go to church and celebrate week after week. They can remember their salvation, which can bring them repetitive joy.
Think About It
If you are a christian, do you have repetitive joy?
Are you stagnant in your joy because you have taken for granted what you have been given?
Or do you go to God often thanking Him?
Do you enter the worship service weekly being reminded what you deserve, and what God has given you?
