HOW NICK LOST 100 LBS IN 10 MONTHS

One-hundred pounds in 10 months! Recently Tim interviewed Nick Forrester on the “Maddening Theology” Facebook page on his weight-loss journey. Nick is a good friend with Tim and a pastor. Their 45-minute conversation is available on the Facebook page. Nick shared his “theology of weight loss” that he followed and we’d like to share.

My identity is in Christ, not my weight.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” -2 Corinthians 5:17

I need to discipline my body, and exercise self-control.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified”. -1 Corinthians 9:24-27

I must cast aside whatever is hindering me from running the race.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

The end result makes saying “no” now easier.

“He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” Hebrews 11:26

I am called to glorify God with my body.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” -1 Corinthians 6:19-20”

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

I must seek God first.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” -Matthew 6:33

I walk by the Spirit and deny the flesh.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the Flesh.” -Gal. 5:16

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” – Romans 8:5

Jesus ultimately satisfies, not food.

“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” -John 6:35

What of these areas would allow you to get healthy? Where are you struggling with your mindset to gain control of your health?
